So what does the science say with regard to the benefits of our Keto ReBoot protocol on performance? The key benefits of calorie restrictive adn ketogenic diets include:
- Increased mitochondrial efficiency:
- Caloric restriction (CR) induces mitochondrial biogenesis and improved physical fitness in rodents.
- Generates less reactive oxygen species, while mitochondria are still able to maintain their critical ATP production
- Delays the onset of the anaerobic phase of exercise resulting in improved work capacity.
- Lower heart rate: CR interventions reduced athletes’ heart rates when performing the same exercise at the same duration and level of power
- More efficient energy burner: Studies showed that participants energy expenditure was about 10%-14% lower after the calorie restriction intervention than before it
- Perception of exertion decrease: In addition, the In this sense, the perception of exertion, as indicated by the Borg index, also decreased after the CR when compared to values observed previously, under an unrestricted diet
- Lower blood lactate levels: lactate levels during a range of different intensities of running periods were significantly lower after CR when compared to pre-CR levels
There are also studies proving the benefits of performance when using ketones for energy; being in a state of nutritional ketosis. Again at this point in time studies are limited but initial findings are very promising… benefits include:
- Accelerate muscle protein and glycogen resynthesis by 2.5x
- Reduce lactic acid production by 50%
- Ketones provide a fuel source that’s 28% more efficient per unit oxygen than carbohydrate
- Improve cognitive performance: Long races are mentally exhausting. Improve and sustain peak cognitive performance during exercise

To conclude:
Physical performance parameters, such as heart rate, lactate levels, fatigue perception (Borg index), energy expenditure were significantly improved as a consequence of programmes such as our Keto ReBoot Retreat. Retreat Pre-Requisites & Contraindications:
Prerequisites:
The participants will receive a list of actions to complete as pre-requisites before arriving at the retreat. The pre-requisites are recommended actions to accomplish to ensure your body and mind is primed to obtain the best results from the Keto Re-Boot. These are not a necessity but will enhance your experience and outcomes greatly.
Contraindications:
As health promoting as Keto Re-Boot Retreat FMD protocol is, people with certain conditions should not join our programme. Individuals who are typically not good candidates for FMD experience the following conditions:
- Pregnant women
- HPA axis dysregulation (“adrenal fatigue”)
- Eating disorder
- Thyroid problems
- Gout
- Diabetes
- Kidney or liver issues
- Clinically underweight individuals
- Individuals with rare genetic mutations that block the capacity to produce glucose from glycerol and amino acids (gluconeogenesis).
- Fasting is also not usually recommended for children or teens
